About us
We started CommuteAble because the problem is personal.
Our founding team has worked directly in the accessibility and disability sector and seen first-hand how often public transport fails disabled people.
Our story
Why we built CommuteAble.
Our founding team has worked directly in the accessibility and disability sector, including at the Motability Foundation, and has seen first-hand how often public transport fails disabled people. Not through malice, but through a consistent lack of the right information at the right moment.
Existing journey planners were built for everyone, which in practice means they were built for people without access needs. We decided to do it the other way around.
CommuteAble is built with accessibility at its core. It is being developed in close collaboration with people with mobility needs and is targeting WCAG 2.1 AA compliance. The platform is currently focused on London and the South West of England, with plans to expand UK-wide.
