Target: WCAG 2.1 Level AA

Our commitment

CommuteAble exists to make public transport more accessible for people with mobility needs. It would be contradictory for our own website to be inaccessible. Accessibility is not an afterthought here. It is the foundation.

We are committed to meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA for this website and all future CommuteAble products.

What we have done

This website has been built with the following accessibility measures in place:

  • Skip link: A "Skip to main content" link appears at the top of every page for keyboard users.
  • Semantic HTML: Proper use of headings, landmarks (main, nav, footer), and list elements throughout.
  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are reachable and operable via keyboard. Focus styles are clearly visible on all focusable elements.
  • Colour contrast: Text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios.
  • ARIA labels: Screen reader labels are applied to navigation, icons, and decorative elements (aria-hidden).
  • Responsive design: The site is fully functional at all viewport sizes.
  • Forms: All form fields have associated <label> elements. Required fields are indicated.
  • Reduced motion: Animations on this site are subtle. We will add prefers-reduced-motion support in the next iteration.

Known issues

This is an early-stage website and we are aware of the following limitations:

  • The site has not yet been formally audited by an independent accessibility specialist. A full audit is planned before our product launch.
  • The SVG route animation in the "How it works" page does not yet have a meaningful text alternative for screen reader users.
  • prefers-reduced-motion support has not yet been implemented. Users who prefer reduced motion may see the blinking indicator in the hero area.

We are actively working to resolve these issues.

Technical information

CommuteAble is committed to making this website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA, due to the known issues listed above.
